Perhaps it would be nice if some of Larrys bandmates would weigh in with some comments.  I know that after 30 years playing with Larryin studios, on albums (CDs) and touring all over the globe, I have lost my dearest friend in music ministry.  It may be of some interest to other fans to start a thread with other musicians who played with Larry.  I know that in North America, we used various playersthe late Jon Linn, Larrys brother, Charles, who not only played here in N.A. but also was in bands throughout the International toursBob Somma, Tim Jaquette, Q-Stone in EuropeBarratt Band in the U.Ka list far too long to mention.

Apart from the great times in the studio, my fondest memories are those of live gigs.  In particular, the fact that Larry always said that the 4 hours of music was simply to get him the open door to speak with people afterward.  We would stay at a venue until everyone lefteven the cleaners.  Often, Id walk around a corner to see Larry sitting with the janitor, being Jesus to him. This is where being nocturnal served him well! :)

If some of the other players care to weigh in, it might prove to be interesting.  Providing the public finds any of that interesting.

I cant wait to play with him again!

I think your idea is fantastic.  I would love to hear from other musicians that played with Larry and the stories that they could tell.  I hope others will respond to this thread

Hi Dan,

What a nice thought! I never toured with Larry, but I did play on In Another Land and Welcome To Paradise. I knew Jon Linn when he was just a teenager and we were playing in a band called "Branches" at various churches in Southern California, including our home church coffee house "Jonah's Place". There's a long and fascinating history as to how we both played on those albums, which I've shared in different Larry and Randy posts over the last few years. Another friend of mine, Steve Kara played with (your brother?) Henry. So we're almost in the 6th degree of separation. My recollections of Larry are confined to the studio experience, which was great. It's such a blessing to see how he lived for our Lord and "lived" Him in all areas. I've been asked to contribute drums to a "tribute" song for Larry which is a re-write of "Song For A Small Circle of Friends, which I played on IAL. It's such an honor to be asked. Richard Cummins is putting the project together and Phil Keaggy has loaned his awesome playing to the track. The idea is to have all proceeds (not sure how that will work yet) go to Larry's family to help in their financial need. Anyway, great to "meet" you, Dan. Maybe we'll get to play together sometime.

God Bless,

Mark Walker

Thanks Mark, for the story.  I am real familiar with your work on those projects.  I didn't start studio stuff with Larry until 1979.  I did several live dates with Jon...he was great...sleveless flannel shirt, and barefoot most of the time.  I probably appear on maybe 10 projects altogether.  Plus I have some studio stuff which was never released.  And numerous live recordings like "Live at Flevo", and the Belfast bootlegs, as well as the project that Mike did the artwork on, but I can't remember the title, as well as the Ellsinore.

Larry was great in studio.  Most of the stuff I did with him was in Hollywood, and it was often that we hit "Pink's" during the sessions...hot dogs.  Also recorded in Germany, Holland, Toronto, and Chicago.  It was an honour to play at the funeral...his last gig...I played this pipe organ sound until everyone heard Larry's voice say, "I don't like none of those funeral marches, I ain't dead yet".  It was great, seeing as hot dogs were served at the gathering after the funeral.

Henry Cutrona is a distant cousin to me, and I was in touch with him when I lived in L.A.  Thanks for weighing in.  Hopefully more players will join in the conversation.

The tribute project sounds great...all the best with that!

I know that Bill Romansky posted here within the first day or two after Larry's passing.  He posted a message of consolation to Charles and the rest of Larry's family.  Not sure if he's following this forum at this point or whether he would post any reminiscence of his time playing guitar for Larry's band during his many concerts in New Jersey during the 80s.

Hey Mark,

Just heard the new version of "Small Circle".  Nice job.  Great playing, and love the Beatle-esque tamb on the ending.  The BGV's are great as well.

Wish there was a discrete way to share e-mail addresses on this forum.  Would love to chat in a more private forum.

God bless...and again, really nice playing.
