To Larry Norman's family - my prayers are with for comfort - Larry 's music and lyrics are still the first things that come to my mond when I try to think of something to sing. I became a christian in 1975 and the first thing my christian
schoolfriend showed my was her album ONLY vISITING   THIS PLANET - wow, i was so glad that there was music I could identify with as  a 17 year old - then he toured Australia and I went to his concert at the State theatre in Sydney Australia and it blew me away. He was singing his heart out - he was not performing for us christians - he was singing for the non-christians . I was stunned. Then later came In Another Land and  another tour. This time he was at the Hordern Pavillion and I took my non-christian boyfriend - wow, this was a rock concert - my boyfriend was impressed by the absolutel sincerity and depth of the whole experience. Now that boyfriend is my husband and now he is a christian and we both rejoice at the life of Larry Norman. I could cry for joy that we saw him - to experience his sincerity aqnd love of the saviour is something that very few christian performers or   speakers can convey.
My grown son has heard his mujsic and can't believe  how very ahead of it's time his music was - Praise  the Lord!!!!!!
I pray blessings and comfort for all his family now - Larry gave so much -
yours in christ Anna Ardia

Indeed I will pray for Larry's family members.  When I became a Christian in 1971, Larry's music became the catalyst to jump-start my Chrsitain walk.  I saw him the following year at Explo '72, the "Chrsitian Woodstock," as the press called it, in Dallas, TX.  It was hard to find press coverage of the Jesus Movement, from Time magazine to newpapers, that did not mention Larry leading peole to the Lord.  The news of his passing is sad for humans, but a joyous day in heaven for Larry.
Jesus is still the Resurrection and the Life! (John 11:25)

Larry Norman was one of the first christian singers I heard after I became a christian. He was a great inspiration, and I deeply regret I was never able to see him live on stage.
My deepest condolances to his family and friends.

Throughout the decades of being a Christian and listening to many Christian bands none have had the impact on me that Larry Norman has.  I am so glad I got to see him in concert here in Canada in the late 70's.  My all time favorite album is In Another Land.

He was truly a unique artist with many God-given talents.

May God be with you as you mourn his passing.  We all look forward to meeting him again in heaven.

So sorry to hear this news, but rejoice over a life well lived and a ministry well served. Like many I found Larrys music soon after i became a Christian in 1973 and have loved it ever since.

He will be missed, especially by you his family, but what a legacy he leaves!

May God bless you all. The servant is no longer waiting in the hall!!

Such sad news for us, such good news for Larry. He is 'Home at Last' with the Father. I feel for the family, and especially his children and want to thank you for backing him through all of the ordeals.

Larry has been a consistent influence in my life as long I am a Christian. (I am 32 and been a Christian for 17 years). I got the 'home at last' album of somebody when baptised at the age of 15. A relatively safe album. My parents were really happy I got some 'christian' rock music. I used to listen to blues, jazz and punk (PIL/SP etc.). When I bought my next album I was overjoyed and my parents a bit worried
weirdface. I had found a Christian singer saying it as it is, the way he felt it. I could relate to the struggles Larry wrote about in his albums like 'upon this rock', 'rehearsal for reality' and 'something new under the sun.' 'I feel like dying', 'Hard luck, bad news', 'watch what your doing' and the punk version of 'why should the devil have all the good music' (thx Charles) were a few of my favourite songs in those days. They still lift my spirit when I listen to them. The idea of being able to be down and out yet save in the arms of God the Father was thus taught to me by Larry. Something they forgot to mention in our 'happy-clappy' church.

As a religion teacher at a secondary school I still tell people his jokes on rock and roll. Like the one with Im in the mood for love or the if rock and roll is bad, maybe they should practise and it will get better.winkbiggrin

His lyrics, the rawness, the 'non-religious' attitudes and his faith despite setbacks and perils have since inspired me. It saddens me that I have not seen him 'live' since 10 years or so. I am looking forward to the great Jam in the sky.... there we will jam together to the honour of our Creator and in all 'blues like' honesty.

Shalom

Dear Norman family.

Today in a norwegian newspaper there is a full page picture of Larry, his eyes are smiling and he is giving the microphone to the person who looks at the picture.

My wife Tonje and I will miss him deeply. Larry was a person who saw me and helped me in crucial times, as I now know he has helped countless people around the world. The fruits of his life are vast. Thank you Larry. I love you and my tears are filled with anticipation that we will meet again in a place without pain and sorrow. I wonder if you allready have hooked up with Lewis, Muggeridge, Chesterton and the band....

Thank you Margareth, Charles and the rest of the family for all the times you have been of great support to me with your open hearts. I cherish you all.

God bless you and support you

Lots of love from Oystein Aronsen, Norway.

Dear family of Larry's!
Since God is my Father, you must be my sister and brother. I just like you to know that Larry has had a tremendous influence on my life (i.e. the last 23 years) with his music, his lyrics and his way of life (the way he looked at things). A truly remarkable brother has gone "Home at last" - and we all will miss him dearly. May you find all you need in God in these hard times. Thousands of people are thinking about you right now - I hope that that will give you some comfort. Many blessings in these days - we'll pray for you.

I remember the rumours of Larry's death, what, 18 years ago?  Since then, I've got married, and become a father!  I'm so glad that my kids have all met him personally, and have been to at least one of his concerts.  My fondest memories are praying with and for him just before he gave the concert in Frauenfeld, Switzerland in 2007, accompanied by my daughters and my wife; and spending time with him and the "Solid Rock Crew" in Norway 2005, Seaside Festival, accompanied by my son, and another family.  Yay - swimming in the fjords!

You know, on that occasion, we were just setting off for the Sunday service, to be led by Larry; he saws us walking off and asked what we were doing - "we have to leave now, so we can be there in time for the service - it's a 30 minute walk".  He then offerered us a lift to the grounds.  He was always looking out for other people, even to his own detriment.  He was man who, though by no means perfect, I could look at, and see Jesus.

My deepest sympathies and prayers to Larry's family and all the Solid Rock Crew.

My heroes can be numbered on the fingers of one hand, but Larry is certainly on that list (although, having met him on a couple of occasions, I know he would have hated to be described as a hero!) A humble, spiritual, funny man. Truly, someone who pointed away from himself and towards our Lord Jesus Christ. A sad loss for us. For him, a homecoming for a good and faithful servant.

May God comfort all those closest to Larry who will miss him most. You're in my prayers.

After i read the sad new i cried yesterday several times. A little bit strange, since i never really spoke with Larry.
In the early/mid 70's i was a member of Youth For Christ Utrecht, a Christian coffeebar; a new concept where young people could drink coffee and talk about God and the bible. Christian music in that time was a bit boring to me. And then someone put "In Another Land" on the recordplayer. I was instantly sold.
In 1976 he came to Utrecht playing TIVOLI, (two months later the place burned down completely). It was part of his wordltour. It was fantastic and it was LOUD. He was my "link" to Christianity, he was talking my "language".
I saw Larry in concert many times. I was always the guy in the back staring in aw. It was (and still is) so strange, being a non-believer and still being a big fan. The last time i saw him was something like 10 years ago when he had his first heartproblems and wrote "Goodbye Farewell". I knew it was the last time I would see him. It was a little place in Utrecht where he played, and all the people came for another band, punk-relie or whatsoever. I was standing there with tears in my eyes. Nobody seemed to be interested, but still he gave what he had.
It feels like i lost a brother. Someone else said "he was the soundtrack of my life" and that is exactly how I feel too. I can't join the rest of you in the believe he's in heaven now. I wish I could. But i'm greatfull for all he shared with us.
Dear family and friends, my thoughts are with you all the time. A lot of strength to you.

Lots of Aussies in tears today at the passing of an enduring creative force.
May God comfort the Norman family at this time. I had so many of my friends discover Jesus through Larrys concerts and music. I met Larry in 1986 when he was in concert with Charles, Jon Linn and Randall Waller: it was cookin'.
Thanks to all of you for providing the web site and product sales over all these years, it has remained a consistent source of creative and spiritual nourishment to so many of us.
Thank you Larry for the songs, laughs, memories and prophetic example. Your life will continue to matter. The music will continue to bear fruit. And we will remember you.
 Thank you Jesus for Larry!

To Charles & family..

Larry made a huge impact in Australia during his tours here in the 70s. Even though I was too young to attend, my great friend Richard Berry was instrumental in bringing Larry down here a number of times, and we often talk of those days and the impact that Larry made when he was here. I had always hoped to meet Larry one day, and with his passing I now understand that our meeting is still on, only it is now scheduled in a different realm!

Larry, from your friends Down Under in Australia - job well done mate..
Rest in peace in HIM, to whom you decicated your life to knowing and being made known.
Well done, good and faithful servant (although I'm sure you would have heard those words already..)
Earth's loss is definitely Heaven's gain!

Catch ya on the flip side fella..

I was at Bryan College (a Christian college) in the '60's when a girl in our dorm got out her guitar and played this gripping new song called "I Wish We'd All Been Ready".

We had never heard anything like that before!  A CHRISTIAN song like that!  WOW!  It was my first exposure to what later became known as CCM.

Little did I know that God would later lead me to build a CCM radio station and play other songs that Larry wrote and sang.  By then he was a legend.

Thank you and thank God for  loaning him to the world!  He will be greatly missed.

Greetings!

I got into music right as Larry was going solo.  My brother saw him at Explo '72 in Dallas and told me I had to hear his work.  I did, and was tremendously influenced by Larry.  We didn't get much Jesus music out East where I lived, so what you got was mostly via record.  Larry's entire philosophy towards music and life was tremenously influential on my own outlook.  He blazed the trail that I would eventually walk.  Eventually I saw him perform twice and actually worked with him once.

When you are working with Christian musicians, you see all types.  I've seen 'em all.  When I worked with Larry, I was tremendously relieved to find him to be exactly the man he portrayed in his art, but also a genuinely nice guy.  Larry was nice to me.  That spoke volumes - even more than his music.

So, folks, what a legacy.  May you guys take comfort in the Lord's loving, present embrace of your brother.

Bob

Larry's music touched my life deeply as a teenager, even before I had given my life to the Lord.  I knew that, if I ever did commit to Jesus, I wanted to do it like Larry!  When I was getting ready to get married, I heard him play in concert "And We Sing The Tune" before it had been released on Stop This Flight.  I told my fiancee' (now my wife of 24 years), "I wish we could get that played at our wedding!"  When I was in seminary, and Phydeaux was being run out of Joe Norman's basement, my wife called the house and had a nice visit with Larry's mom on the phone.  Joe sent me good advice in those days - when you're listening to your professors, be sure to do what the Bereans did in Acts 17:11.  I always did!  When I met Larry at Cornerstone in 1990, I told him I was a minister now.  He asked how that was, and I told him it was lonely sometimes.  He replied, "The sheep don't always know what to make of the shepherd."  And he hugged me!  That was the last time I saw him.  But it wasn't the last time his words encouraged me, via his recordings.

May the Holy Spirit draw close to you, his family and friends, and comfort you with His presence and peace.  May you draw strength from God's promises, which He always keeps, and the sure and certain hope of the resurrection.

Not only did Larry have an impact on my life through his music, but also in my chosen career as a Christian journalist - and right at the start of that career as a young 20-something.

One of the highlights of that career was interviewing Larry Norman in Edmonton in the early 1980s. At that point, Larry hadn't been performing much in North America, but on this particular occasion he was doing a cross-Canada tour. This particular evening, his bus was delayed coming across the Rockies and he was about two hours late - yet his fans (including me) patiently waited until the concert started. Even then, it began as a solo effort until his backup band, the Young Lions, showed up.

After the concert, I had a chance to interview Larry for the Alberta Sonshine News, for which I was covering the contemporary music ministry as a freelancer - the beginning of my journalistic career. Two events really blew me away: 1) the interview itself - because Larry had been shying away from the media. This concert took place during the height of the "Rock vs Christian music" controversy and Larry was often a flashpoint as the father of Christian rock music. Yet he gave me the chance to interview him. 2) Was what Larry said to me at the end of the interview: he asked for a copy of a tape of the interview because "(I) asked good questions." I sent him both a copy of the tape and the story that appeared.

Larry was used by God, perhaps in ways he'll only come to appreciate and understand now that he's in the presence of his heavenly Father.

Yours in Christ

I had met Larry only once, we had conferedby e-mail many times over the last several years, and he was very excited and encouraging about me as a musician, and about one song in particular that I had written.

But all talk of music aside, when Larry told me in an e-mail about 6 months ago that he "always felt safe around me" and considered me a friend, made me feel very blessed to know him and consider him a friend and brother in Christ.

I just wanted to let you know that I am grieving today for the fact that I won't meet with Larry again in this life, but rejoicing that, as his suffering ends, I will meet him in heaven.

Blessings in this time,

i lost my mom two weeks ago and am still missing her and now larry has also gone ....  you and your family are in my prayers and thoughts as you also miss someone who you loved.
and what can one say about larry...  i saw him several times in concert along with the solid rock guys,  tom, and randy, and jon wonderfingers.  he was a true prophet and no one but the lord himself knows the impact he has had on this world we live in or the lives he has touched. but remember we are only visiting this planet and larry's visit has ended.  he is now singin in the heavenly band waiting for the rest of us.

god bless you charles and family and remember the devil never had all the good music and never will.

thank you larry and get ready cause we will all see you soon.

I have listened to Larry's music since the early 80's, a late comer as it were.  An insperation to me in my faith journey, poignant, and honest.  I want to give something back of my own, though I wrote it when my grandfather passed in 1979 I want to share it with you the family, it is my heart felt prayer.

Let the Tired One Sleep in Peace

Time has taken its toll on him,
The man that is, shall always remain,
In the hearts of those who he loved so dear.
Let the tired on sleep in peace.

A strong man, gentle to all,
Never failing to make one smile,
Teaching us all, all that he knew,
He will live on forever in us all.

Listen in the wind,
You will hear his knowledge.
Look at the fall,
You will see his beauty.

So tired is he,
The man who cares.
Time is inevitable,
And time will come.

Let no one say,
He did not succeed.
For he was here as a teacher,
And teach us he did.

Not just and ordinary man,
But a man, and a father to us all.
The Lord has made a place for him,
And we shall be with him again.

Yesterday was long ago,
Tomorrow, far to near.
Pray for the one we all adore,
And let the tired one sleep in peace.

A man strong in will,
A man, strong in knowledge,
A man, strong in spirit,
Three men wrapped up in one.

Let our love be his pillow,
Let our hearts keep him warm,
Let our tears keep him clean,
For he will be alive in all of us.

Bring him peace our Lord
Let him sleep in freedom.
For a man so great,
He shall be remembered.

To Larry's family, thank you for sharing him with us.

First time I heard Larry was in Moscow, Russia in 1998. One of the Missionaries gave me a tape. Larry touched my heart deeply (even though I could not understand all the lyrics). Larry helped me to become more real in my music (I play guitar in the band) in my walk with Christ. I live in Texas now and work at Christian Girls Home for troubled teens. Last year I introdused Larry's music to the girls overhere - they loved him. We prayed for him, helped him in some other ways. I am glad Larry is home now but I can hardly type this message because of tears...
I will help financially some more with final expances and will stay in touch spreading the Good News and continuing the work Larry started.

To the family and friends, a heart felt hug of encouragement. As a fan from the 60's on, I feel a great sadness, but also a great joy. I am so glad for the final words Larry left. Words that leave great encouragement, spiritual wealth, and direction.

Larry's life impacted mine early on. As a youngster I had given my life to Christ. But the life of a Christian has its ebbs, and I had fallen away as I left out on my own as an adult. The influences of Larry, Mark Heard, Randy Stonehill & others helped to redirect my Spirit back to serving Christ, both with my life and my music.

Larry's journey here on Earth may be over, but his Songs, influence, and Spirit will forever leave a footprint upon the Church, and the Kingdom.

Goodbye dear brother. Happy Graduation! Your music will eternally be in my heart. God has truly blessed you!

To the family....the prayers of our family will be with you. God has used all of you to reach out for the lost in this world, as support and encouragement. Stand fasty in the Lord, and He will surely supply ALL your needs, according to His riches in Glory!

God Bless,

Charles,

I also lost my brother this week to a heart attack.  Like Larry he was too young, only 57 years old.

I just want to tell you that as I teen I spent my hours listening to Larry's music.  I always felt like a misfit in my family as I was the only believer.  His song with the words "walking backwards up the stairs, trying to get higher" was one that always resonated with me and was a great source of comfort.

I had the privilage of meeting him when he came to the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship in the late 1990's.  I distinctly remember babbling like a teenage girl( is was in my 40s) as I meet one of my idols.  He of course was very gracious and very humble.

When I was a teenager in the 70s, my life was all about music.  Had Larry not been used by God the way he was, others like Randy Stonehill, Daniel Amos, etc. may not have followed.  God always provides a way for those he's called to reach Him.  He often used "all the good music" that the devil didn't have to call me back and I specifically remember "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus" going through my head over and over when I was furthest away.

May God bless and comfort you as much as He used Larry to bless the rest of us.

About 12 or 13 years ago I took my wife to a concert near Lancaster, PA, driving up from Northern Virginia.  She had never heard Larry before - I had grown up with him and been to two concerts before, in Iowa and near Chicago.  She was so impressed that we drove home and took our three kids back up the next night for a second concert.  It says something about the man when someone is willing to travel 100 miles each way two nights in a row.  We met Larry the second night, with I believe, his son who was my son's age.  They clicked even if for only a few moments. Larry was extremely gratious, kind and open when we talked with him.  Odd in that he reminded me of John Tesh in that way, yet not odd in that they both have the same faith.  When I told my wife last night of his passing, she was very sad, yet we know he's in a better place.  His music and more importantly, his spirit has always been an inspiration.  My heart goes out to you in your loss.    Bill Tatter

RE: Message for Larry Norman's family

Charles and Kristin, thank you for your communications and wonderful support for Larry and the work he did for God. I still remember how excited I was to discover his music, and how I was able to sneak some tunes on the radio working as a DJ.

Larry was the first Christian rocker, and still the best in my opinion. His messages were always clear and convicting. Many very conservative Christians dismissed him too quickly based on his appearance and music style. But they never realized they were singing some of his tunes in church and at bible camp. My three sons enjoy his music very much, and they share it with their friends. Particularly emotional even today is his song "I Wish We'd All Been Ready". You can find some interesting video of him performing this and others on UTube (look for a cute song called "The Tune" performed live).

Larry was definitely ready. I will miss him greatly.
God bless,
Steve
Why should the devil have all the good music?

The first time I ever heard Larry's music was when I had first dedicated my life to Christ in college.  The worship leader at a small bible study was playing some really amazing songs and when I asked who sang them he started telling me all about Larry.  He even had some LPs (in 1993) for me to hear Larry.  I was hooked.

For years now Larry has been an inspiration for me and I have been touched by what God has done in his life and what God will continue to do through his leagacy.

I had an opportunity to talk a little with Larry at creation one year (the year the helicopters kept buzzing us).  What an awesome human being and child of the light.

God Bless You All.

Dear Family of Larry Norman.  I know I am not known to any of you.....but I am a changed person because of the life of Larry Norman.  I can only tell you how grateful I am to Jesus for how he used Larry's music and his heart to challenge, encourage and convict my walk with our Savior...the ONE AND ONLY Savior!  I pray for your comfort and remind us all that we will see him soon!  Sooner than later I hope!  May his flying home challenge us all once again to look at how we live our lives and write our songs.  God bless you.  I love Larry Norman.
