As an artist I was thrilled when Larry responded to a demo I sent him about 5 years ago.  He began corresponding with me on a regular basis regarding my upcoming album but, more importantly, me as a person.
I saved a comment he made in an email to me about 3 years ago that has truly helped me keep music in perspective.  He said "I don't know if God wants to take you very far in music at all, but I'm SURE he wants to take you very far as a person"

My condolences to Larry's family,

Roy Dodson Phillips

Hey Roy, I couldn't help but think of you when I heard the news about Larry. I have very fond memories of stuff we did as kids and Larry's music figured very prominently in our lives. Do you remember that show of Larry's that Will promoted at Memorial Hall back in '81-'82? I still have all those photos I took. Larry had invited the entire audience to come back and talk to him after the show. They were lined up a mile down the hall trying to get into his dressing room. And when the venue finally kicked everybody out, he drug everyone to Denny's and continued to hold everyone spellbound for a few hours more. I just so happened to be doing some reading about the "Jesus Movement" lately, and I was feeling very nostalgic for those times and now this. I know you would agree that Larry's music was influential in our lives, far beyond what one normally expect and that we would be very different people if not for that influence. I'm also thinking about Will alot right now too. I dropped him a note on his myspace today, just in case he hadn't yet heard. Give me a shout sometime, I'd love to get nostalgic with someone who was there back then.
