Larry's music started me on God's path ... way back in 1976 or 77...
I met him for the first time at C-Stone ... and he encouraged me greatly. It was a time when I was at a crossroads to follow in the ministry or not.

Larry simply asked ... "Who you doin this for? If it's for you ... get a job!" I assurred him that I felt the Lord calling me . He nodded and said ... "I thought so! Go for it ... but remember there is only one way ... His! And ... when you sing the Sweet Song of Salvation ... do it with laugher!"

fast forward several years ... and the desire of my heart was to once again run into Larry ... just to let him know the impact on my life that he had!

One day ... alone on an elevator in Nashvile during GMA on my way to the lobby ... a stop was made on one floor ... the door opened and there stood Larry. He smiled ... quietly entered the elevator after noticing the lobby button was pushed he simply leaned against the wall ... ready for the short ride down.

I gushed out some kind of "hero worship" statement ... and then immediately tried to explain who I was ... in an attempt to not look quite as immature as I felt. I told him about the conversation at CStone. He looked at me ... and amazingly ... he said, "You are the guy that was wondering about being a pastor... well, are you?"

We chatted on the elevator ... I expected to go his way and on with his day. Instead ... he suggested we sit in the lounge at the base of the elevators. We spent an hour talking ... laughing ... remembering friends we had in common. We talked about politics ... health ... family love. I told him about the new Oasis Fellowship we were starting and he said he would pray for us. The time we spent together was then and forever will be a treasured memory!

When I heard that the Lord had called Larry home ... I laughed and cried at the same time! My heart was overjoyed in Larry's continued victory here ... and for Heaven's gain! Thank you ... for sharing Larry with all of Creation, Lord! Bless his family with Your comfort!

And Lord ... I think this year in Nashville ... I will spend an hour on that couch in the hotel lobby ... and be available for You to use me to encourage someone  ... in the same way Larry encouraged me!

The Sweet Song of Salvation ... rests in my heart!
Thanks Larry ...

In His Grip,
