We had the privilege of having Larry Norman come to our friends  little "Farm concerts"biggrin way back in the '60's.....Larry would come to an old farm place where a friend of ours lived,  ( In rural Minnesota)and we'd set up this half hilarious stage, invite hundreds of born again x-hippies and sing our hearts out to Jesus.
Larry would sing...."He's and identifying flying object'.....and "I am a servant" etc.'While we shouted praises and danced in joy.
The kids played, the cows and sheep stared, the flies landed on our food, the children played merrily all around....we were happy, we didn't care what the ppl said, we rocked and rolled for Jesus, and the sun shined down on us.
Thank you Larry, and family for allowing a  few young Christians to enjoy your talent.biggrinweirdfacebiggrin
The heavens are having a ball now, and I hope you all are ready!!

We had the blessing of seeing Larry in person several times over the years and have much of his early work on vinyl.

His music and walk with the Lord influenced me to go on with my music and am sorry to hear he's left us but am glad he can now dance on those golden streets "In Another Land".

Our prayers are with his family and son. May God bless and comfort you and we all need to remember we're "just passin thru".

I have always loved Larry.  I grew up in the S.F. Bay area. His music and his words have meant so much to me.  When my husband and I met Larry in 1984 he was kind, friendly, down to earth and generous.  He was proud of his parents and wanted us to meet them.  Years later, we met again in 2001 and again Larry was still the warm generous soul we had come to love.  Larry has had a profound affect not just on a generation but on many generations.  I know this personally because I was a girl when I was first blessed by Larry's music and now I am a grandmother.  His message, his loves, his passions,  live on through the lives of our children and our grandchildren, who he his affected to know this: know Jesus, he's got the answer.

You have my sincere sympathy.

And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed on into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.

How sad for us. How absolutely wonderful for Larry. To finally arrive where he always wanted to be. Thank you, Mr. Larry Norman, for the gigantic role you played in my salvation and discipleship. Your obedience has had a huge impact on me and, obviously, the whole world. Thanx for taking a break after the soundcheck and before the show to talk with your fans. I was, and always will be one. Enjoy the view, Larry, and tell Jesus I said "hello"!

Dear Charles,    I feel saddened by the news that Larry has passed.....but only long enough to imagine the smile on his face... I was introduced to Larry's work all the way back in 1975 by my closest friend Roger, whom I still have occasion to visit....We introduced Larry's work to some of the people at our church a couple of years ago...they were astounded, just as i was, the first time i heard... My friend and I also used some of Larry's recordings during the Easter play at church in a soundtrack to our dramatization....as well as butchered(attempted to play)some of Larry's songs...which were recieved with much more appreciation than we expected....Larry has been a great blessing and inspiration to all of us confused young Christian/hippies that knew that there had to be something other than what the rest of rock was trying to feed us.  The rest all left us hungry, wanting, and strung out....Larry was showing us a great gift that would insure that we would never be hungry again...And whenever in times of weakness I would stray, It was always Larry that would be there with the message in the music that would bring me back.....I'm gonna miss knowing that he was there somewhere here on planet...But again....think of Larry's huge grin when he meets the Lord in Heaven and recieves the staggerring number of crowns that Jesus will most assuredly bestow,  and Larry's humility as he hands them back saying that no matter how much he did here, he could never, ever, ever repay Jesus for what He did for him, and for the rest of us....Trust in the Lord, my brother, and trust me...We have not heard the last of Larry.....Thanks for the chance to leave this message for you....You are in my prayers......

Larry's music played a great part in my coming to a personal faith in Jesus Christ.  I still know the tunes and words to some of those songs from the early 70's.  I only saw him in concert once, at Hove Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex , UK, but it was such a boost to my emerging faith.  Thank you.

I fell in love with Jesus when I heard Larry Norman's words on an album some friends at our church youth group played. These friends said it was rare, and their parents had 'the word out' that they wanted any albums Larry Norman made. This was in the late 70's, and anything that was so secretive and enticing had to be worth finding out about!
I came to understand Larry Norman didn't want to be the main focus-the main focus was always to be a relationship with a living Jesus. I remember going to Whitworth University (then college) for my birthday and the best present I had requested was to be at the Larry Norman concert! I got my wish, and I will always remember the quiet humor, peaceful demeanor, and the comfort and joy I received that night.
I am sad for all of the family who will miss having Larry in their midst right now, even as I know you all are rejoicing that Larry is in God's midst at this very moment, rejoicing and praying for us who are left behind.
Larry truly one was of the rock pioneers in the beginnings of the Christian movement, and his legacy is one of standing firm for Christ.
THANK YOU for being there for me - and helping me to find a Jesus that met me where I was, and stayed.

It is hard for me to find words that express what Larry meant to me. He was one of my mentors. He was one of the most authentic Christians I've ever known. The light of Christ shined so brightly and the few times I was blessed to spend some time with him, I felt the love of Christ from his words and actions.
This afternoon I give God thanks for gracing me with his friendship and for allowing me to share in his ministry. Yes, the goodbye is only temporary and I will look forward to seeing Larry again with his long, blond hair shining brighter than the sun!
I pray for you all and ask God to comfort you with His hope, love, and presence!

I have genuinely loved Larry's music and his life has been such an inspiration to others. I also am about the same age and have heard his music since I was a baby Christian. I hope that his family and friends will cherish his memory and all the wonderful things God has done throughout his life. I know how hard it is to lose someone you love. I lost my husband five years ago to cancer but I will someday see him with Jesus. May you all experience God's presence and love through this time of sorrow. I pray the Lord will truly bless you all.

In Christ,
Kathryn

I first met Larry at the Greenbelt arts festival in England several years ago.  He'd been banned from performing the previous year for speaking truthfully (and, of course, irreverantly...) from the main stage.  On this particular year, he had somehow snuck in to the merch tent, and was sitting on a stool playing his old guitar as a crowd of onlookers wondered who he was.  I was struck again by his humility and honesty after all the years.  He reminded me a lot of a David - the shepherd-minstrel - and I credit my love for intelligent christian music and irrereverant sense of humor to Larry's wonderful influence during those formative teenage years.

Thanks, Man.  I'll miss you.  Let that train keep rolling...

My heart goes out to the Norman family. I know you will miss him dearly. I was looking forward to meeting him at his induction ceremony into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in June. We will do some sort of video montage in his honor. I will pray for the family that your loss is eased by knowing he is now with his savior and in pain no longer. This message board is full of those lives he touched. He truly was a servant. He was a giant in God's army and he will be missed.

Like many others, my life has been altered forever, by God touching me through the music of Larry Norman. Most of my life I was very depressed and suicidal. I accepted the Lord in 1978. Soon after I heard a song of Larry's on the radio. I was greatly touched. I bought a couple of albums and this was when I noticed my life changing. I was getting explainations from God about why I had seen and experienced so many horrible things in my life. It was sin and sinful people who caused this. It was never God's intention for me or anyone else to ever go through all this mess. He had a plan for all of our lives. The most important thing I heard was that God had a plan for my life! I went to several of Larry's concerts and saw that he was as genuine as the message I heard on his records. Over the years I find myself going back to these songs again and again when I feel I just can't take any more of what the world dishes out to me. One of the greatest trials I've experienced was when my christian husband commited suicide. Rick couldn't take anymore of what the world was offering him either. We were married for 20 years. That's been almost 10 years ago now. He enjoyed Larry's music too. It's nice to know they are both with the Lord. My daughter, Janelle, is up there too. I just moved to Oklahoma 6 months ago, after living my whole life in Los Angeles, Ca. I don't know what God has in mind for me here, but he was very spefic about wanting me to move. I've learned that when he says "go" I go and it works out so much better for me than the times I choose to do what I want to do. Like so much of my life, when there is a big change and I feel insecure, I pull out the albums (actually I have them on CD's now) crank the volume all the way up and allow God to minister to me the basic truths of himself I learned 30 years ago. I'm sorry for the loss you are feeling and my prayer is that God would wrap each of you up in His loving arms and give you comfort that only the Holy Spirit can give! God bless you all. With much affection, Michelle

I  am so sorry to here of Larry's passing. His music has meant so much to me. I saw him perform live once -- in England in 1990 I believe it was -- his set with just a spanish guitar was one of the greatest examples of passion and rock and roll I have ever witnessed.
Please  know that I will be praying for you all.

Emotionally, I couldn't write much at this moment if I wanted to. I want to say how much I loved Larry and appreiciated what his life acomplished. I met and talked to Larry a few times in the late '60s/early 70s. I even went to his apartment once when he wasn't home and was surprised when Pam showed me he had one of my albums in his small record collection. Sadly, few ever followed his example and I'll leave it to those with eyes to see and ears to hear to undersatnd what I mean.

I, myself, probably don't even know how much he affected me and my own musical direction. I had been thinking for months of sending Larry a copy of our latest album just so he could see where we had gone musically but never seemed to have the time to get around to it. I look forward to eternity when time will be endless and surely, if I can't see him today there will always be tomorrow.

So, to Larry's family, I would just say that even though he seemed to always be misunderstood, some of us loved him and stood up for him. Who knows, maybe we were the ones who misunderstood him; but I don't think so.

See you soon, Larry,

I want to thank Larry for who he was and what he gave me through his music, art, interviews and writings. As a young converted teenager in the seventees, he helped me, although i never met him in person, to build an identity as a thinking, comtemporary believer and christian.

The concerts he held here in Norway, since the eighties wil not be forgotten but bare fruit until eternity. The blessings he gave wil be returned as peace to his family and those he left behind until we all meat him again in heaven.

I want to thank his mother and father, his son, his brother and sisters and anyone else who was close to him for sharing him with us all.

Jesus loves us all.

I was introduced to Larry and his music in the early 70Žs, and he has been a companion ever since. Finally there was a guy, who was a Christian and could rock with the best of them, But most important: Larry encouraged us to look into Jesus, no matter what, and as such he will be remembered: a servant, who pointed the way. May God grant you his perfect peace, as you as a family mourn LarryŽs departure from this to another land. He will be greatly missed.

I had the honor of being able to go out with Larry three times after concerts. My husband and I would take him out to eat then back to his hotel. At one of the times we took our 5 month old daughter Emily Rose. She had a congenital heart defect. Larry held her and sang to her as we ate. She died a week later. I called Larry and told him the news. He said "well she was only visiting this planet too" then he reminded me that she is waiting for me in heaven. That was 17 years ago and now Larry waits with my girl. Thank you Larry we will see you again.

Larry is unquestionably one of my heroes! He was a true artisan, a modern-day troubadour who, from where I'm sittin', remained true to his Father and to himself througout the years. When most "Christian musicians" followed the whims and fads of pop music, he stuck with his giftings - a true artist does that. Through the years, I've walked around, singing or reciting Larry's lyrics to family, friends, employees, even relative strangers. Since waking this morning, I haven't been able to get the "I Hope I'll See You In Heaven" out of my head.

To Larry's family and close friends who are mourning deeply - Father is very fond of you. He loves you more than you know!

Only Visiting This Planet debuted the year that I graduated from high school, shortly after I committed my life to Christ. It was such a powerful album, and had a profound influence on me as a musician and as a Christian.

I met Larry years ago when I picked him up from the airport to bring him to the Lamb's Club in New York where he was scheduled to perform. As we were waiting for his luggage, he struck up a conversation with a young woman who had arrived on his flight. She did not know who he was, and did not know Jesus. We offered her a ride into the city from the airport. During the trip, and in his own unique way, he shared the Gospel with her and invited her to come to the concert. He had the heart of an evangelist.

I send my deep condolences to the family, and I am grateful to God for the gift of his life to the world of Christian music and to the many lives that he influenced for Christ. He had his struggles as all of us do, but I am happy that he is now safe in the arms of Jesus.

Back in 1972 while attending Northwest Christian College, I was greatly influenced by Larry's song "I Wish We'd All Been Ready." I was in a small singing group called "New Song." We went to small churces in Oregon and sang, and this song of Larrys was, and always will be one of my favorite and most meaningful songs in my lifetime.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those loved ones who at this point have been "left behind." May you aspire to meet him on the other side.

I would just simply like to express my deepest sympathy to his family and close friends because if people like me on the outside feel as sad and stunned as I do then I can only imagine the heartache that those dearest to him must feel.

Larry had a profound impact on my life as a Christian and a musician.

I first heard the album "Street Level" in the late 70's, and just couldn't
get enough of it. Soon I was buying anything Larry that I could get
my hands on. Sadly my parents thought "Christian Rock" was evil, so
I had to hide it.

In the 90's I compiled the first discography or Larry's music on the
internet on rec.music.christian - before the world wide web existed.

I got see Larry in concert 4 times over the years, the last time in
San Antonio a few years ago, he said he had seen my internet site and
was appreciative of the support - that really meant a lot to me.

I can't wait to meet him again in heaven.

I first met Larry Norman on August 12, 2006 at the Salem Armory. We had drove down from Everett, and made it for the 2nd Set. I was amazed to walk in and see so many musicicans on stage, including Frank Black, who I noticed immediately. After the show, I met the band and Larry, something about him made it seem like I have known him my whole life. The next day, I read a 4 page article in the local paper about his discographies, world tours, and lifetime acheivement awards in the "Gospel World of Music". I was definitely impressed. Later that day, we attended the guitar auction at Charles' Jam house. After enjoying some great food and the auction, there was a jam session to be held. I beleive it started with Larry and his guitarist doing "Yesterdays". I had brought my bass with me, just in case. It was Valerie, Larry's cousin and my mother-in-law, who recommended that I got up and paticipated. I was with the drummer from Softcore and Larry's guitarist. We started with a blues progreession in F. After that the guitarist asked if I knew and Beatles? I replied, "Twist & Shout". We were beginnig the song, and out of nowhere comes Larry to the stage, belting out the lyrics. I was amazed to see such a weakened man perform on stage just to make the people happy, yet that is just what he did. After that we did, "Come Together". It kinda fell apart at the end, but it was all worth the experience. I remember camcorders rollin', I hope someone who reads this article has access to the recording. We stayed and partied until late. The next morning we awoke, had a big breakfast, and talked of life and the weekend that had just happened. Booie, Maxx and I went to the Salem Children's Museum before embarking towards Washington. I am writing this whole article from memory, like it just happened yesterday. That trip to Salem has impacted my life and will be forgotten. Larry Norman is a great example of what can be accomplished, in a lifetime and beyond, by belief, music, desire and the love of family and friends! He will definitely be missed.....

His music changed my view of the Christian music and for that I am grateful. We will meet again.

Dear Norman Family,

Larry was a willing and zealous instrument that God played on this earth to announce the Good News a.k.a. Jesus Christ our Saviour!

I extend my deepest sympathies to you as it is so hard to be separated from those we love so much and have loved us so much! Larry waits for all of you in the land of no more good-byes and no more separations.

I am so grateful that Larry gave his gifts to the Glory of God. His words and music are truly inspirational and will continue to be like a love letter from Larry and God to all of us still here waiting to get moved into our eternal home. As a fellow lyricist and musician, I can only hope that when I fly home my life will have made a difference to the eternal lives of others too. The impact and legacy that Larry offers us even now will have no end and we praise God for him until we all will meet  again as we are all part of the Body of Christ with our origins in the heart of God and we will all meet again as one in the Lord!

Remember John 17 when Jesus was praying and how our Lord expressed His desire for US to be with Him in Heaven, well the Lord's desire for Larry to be with Him is now fulfilled; may this be of comfort to you!

God Bless and Keep you always and comfort you with His Love and Peace!

In Jesus Love

Dear Norman family,
From the time that I was little I can remember listening to Larry's music. I know all the songs by heart, my dad loved him. He had every cd/album that I can remember. Larry was a great guy. He was really the one that introduced me to Christian music growing up. My dad once took my brother to a Larry Norman concert, and when the music started my brother starting crying because it was too loud, so they had to leave. But the one thing I remember most, was that my parents were going to a concert when I was about 7 and I wanted to go so bad, because I LOVED Larry, but the concert was too late at inght, and I had to stay at home. So I wrote Larry a letter saying that he was my hero, and that I loved him (keeping in mind I was 7). And during the intermission my dad snuck the letter up to his stool on stage. When he returned he saw the letter, and began to read it aloud. After he finished he asked if I was in the audience, my dad stood up and said I was not there, that I was at home, and that I was extraordinarily sad I couldn't be there. Larry told my mom and dad to tell me that he loved me too when I got home, and that my letter touched his heart. I remember that like it was yesterday, that made me feel so proud. From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you to Larry for making a 7 year old little girl feel like she was the most important person on Earth. I will miss him so much, and continue to listen to his music. Your family and friends are in my prayers and God Bless You.
And to Larry, from that same little girl, 14 years later, I love you, and I can't wait to see you in heaven!!

Love,
Bethany J

Dear Loved Ones,

I will never forget the 2 times I saw Larry in concert.  They literally changed my life.  "Put your life in Jesus nail-scarred hands" is in my top 5 songs of all time.  I sing it constantly--really--in the shower, just bumpin' around the house.  I love it so much because it reminds me what is really important--to trust completely in Jesus to forgive my sins and save me.   That's what I'll remember Larry for--how he swept away the cobwebs and rhetoric and made faith in Christ simple and primary.  I love you, Larry.  See you on the other side of Jordan.

Once on a trip to Malaysia, a choir from East Borneo came to our worship conference. They had hiked down the from mountains for eight hours, to catch a bus for two or three hours, to take a plane from East Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur.

Their director explained that they wished to share some of their native music with us, and introduced their first song as one about two men working in a field. Dressed in grass vests and loin cloths, with some of them playing bamboo flutes, the choir began singing, their native dialect made even more foreign to my ears by a nasally, detuned style. But, I thought I recognized something about the melody.

About thirty seconds in, I realized what East Borneo "native" song they were singing: "Two men walkin' up a hill; one disappears and one's left standin' still..."

It's amazing how far a well-written song can travel. Thanks, Larry, for a great contribution to the world, and especially to Christ's kingdom.

And thanks to the Gossetts for introducing me to a genuine troubadour.

You know all the "remember where you were" moments. MLK, 9/11, etc.
It was 1979, I was in the parking lot of my church in Flint MI. and my youth pastor gave me "Only Visiting This Planet" That night the walls came down as I heard music for the first time, that connected with my faith.

For the thousands of times and the millions of people that I have sung "Why Should the Devil" to, we all owe a dear and un repayable debt to Larry. He was remarkably generous to me with his heart and art. All these years I have stood on his shoulders.

Charlie, let me know how I can honor your brother,

To Charles Norman & all of those closest to Larry,

I was so saddened to hear the news about Larry. Shortly after I returned to Christ late in 1972 I was introduced to Larry Norman's music. His songs were the kind you'd sit, listen to, ponder & be challenged. They meant so much to me in those early days and have stuck with me all these many years.

My wife & I attended "Jesus 74" in western Pennsylvania. Larry took the stage solo and the very large crowd stood to their feet & cheered wildly. Larry shouted back, "Sit down! Sit down! I'm playing rock 'n' roll with a classical guitar." We all just laughed. He then said, "I heard a rumor ... that I was back-slidden ... (more laughter) ... well ... I asked around and found out it wasn't true."

I'm sure it's not hard imagining him saying that.

In 1976 we attended the FCCM Conference (Fellowship of Contemporary Christian Ministries) at a camp in Indiana. Larry was walking a few feet in front of us when he spotted our 22 month old son. It was obvious Larry took true delight in the sight of our little one, turned to him, "Hey there little buddy ... how are doing?" revealing his tender side.

So I send out my sincere condolences for Larry's family & close circle of friends. May he rest in the peace & splendor of our Lord forever,

Angelo Natalie

Thank you to Larry's family for raising him the way you did to help him find Christ  and for praying for him to be led by God all of these years with his work.  His work touched many, many peoples hearts.  I am very thankful for his many songs that have always meant so much to me, and for his sweet spirit that was so committed to helping others grow closer to Christ and and to share the truth even if it was very convicting.  I enjoyed the goofiness and funness that he put into his songs.  They always have, and always will mean a great deal to me.  I am so sorry for your loss, but rejoice with you that he is with the one that he loved the most.  Prayers for you.

Man, this was a surprise! I'm thankful that he's now home with Jesus and doesn't have any more pain that this frail, finite body gave him. His music is still some of my favorite! The Outlaw, Why Don't You Look Into Jesus, and Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music are one's I'll never forget. But I'll also always see him in my mind's eye with his finger pointing upward to Jesus!

Keep pointing! Goodbye, Larry. I'll see you with Jesus.
