I had the pleasure of meeting Larry in 1971 after he had done an outdoor concert in Erie Pa. There was a dinner in a church basement afterward and I sat beside him. It was one of the great experiences of my life, he was so real and unpretentious, a real servant of the Lord. Never saw him after that, but have come back to his music again and again and shared it over the years with many others. I know that Larry would be the first to tell you that he was not perfect but I am sure that when that big awards banquet occurs that Jesus promised, Larry is going to get a prize that no earthly organization could come close to and I'll be cheering with all the rest. As he said, we will meet again.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Larry Norman the year the San Diego Padres played in the World Series.   He had played at a Gospel Festival at Great America Amusement park in Santa Clara, CA.  I had accompanied a friend who was a Christian radio DJ at the time.    While my friend was doing interviews with Petra and others that day, Larry noticed that I was standing in a corner of the room by myself.  He invited me over to sit by him and offered me some of his food.  He then watched the Series with me for the next hour or so.  He was very kind and gentle. I did not expect him to be like that after his performance and was pleasantly surprised.  He made a shy, geeky teenage girl more comfortable and accepted that day.  I will never forget my short time with him that day.    He will be truly missed.    JC

Dear Family, I am grateful to have met Larry.
I met him in 1971 at a concert we did in Ohio. We always enjoyed meeting up here and there.
He was very generous with his music and I have many of his albums that he personally shared with me.
He was one of a kind and a real creative artist.
I played a concert in March 2004 up in Pleasant Valley OR, and he came up on stage and we sang several songs together, What a memory!
Today I was listening to those moments a number of times and enjoying every minute.
My heartfelt prayers go out to you all. Love in Jesus,
Phil Keaggy

I met Larry on the Tourniquet Tour in August 2001 when he played at a church in Greenford (just outside London). I had a lovely chat with him and also assisted by producing a video of the gig (which is one of my treasured possessions). The best part of the video was that when I got home I realised that I had accidentally left the camera running after some test shots, and the whole of the conversation with Larry was captured. I was also involved in a frantic search for his leather jacket during the interval - both minor events for Larry, but things that will remain with me forever.

This was the first time that I had seen Larry since he played at the London Dominion gig (recorded as part of the Friends On Tour album). Previous to that, I saw him at the Royal Albert Hall (him playing The Tune that day has stayed with me until this day).

I'll never forget my youngest daughter (aged 13 at the time) just using the word "awesome" about him after the Greenford gig.

The Norman family have much to be proud of, and my thoughts and prayers go out to them, and especially so at this time. Larry is Home At Last, and waiting for us all.

I meet Larry in 2002. I was the "ride" to the concert for him, and to say I was a bit nervous was an understatement. I was a little early and I paced around the lobby of the Days Inn for about 15 minutes, when out of the corner of my eye I saw Larry walking towards me carrying his guitar. I walked towards him stuck out my hand and said "Mr. Norman I am your ride for this evening. I hope you wont mind driving in my truck (1988 nissan 4x4 that was two tone, gray and rust) because I couldn't secure a limo. Larry look bewildered, then said "um ok." As we walked to the truck He said "your not going to put my guitar in the back are you?" I replied "No Mr. Norman I have an extended cab truck so your guitar will be safely inside the cab behind the seat." As we came up to the truck I opened the door and pulled the seat back and Larry put his guitar in and then hoped in. I got in the drivers side and we proceeded to drive to the concert.

It had been a rather warm day so I had all the windows of the truck open, including the sliding window in the rear. I was so pumped to have Larry Norman in my truck that I was just babbling away the whole time while I was driving and watching the road. Larry wasn't saying much, and it made me wonder if something was wrong. I turned to look at him and I noticed that the combination of highway speed and open windows in the truck created a wind tunnel effect, and Larry's hair was going in about 99 different directions.
I blurted out "Mr. Norman do you need me to close my windows?" Larry responded "yes please". I rolled up my windows the whole time apologizing profusely. Larry just shrugged it off. Once we arrived at the concert venue I informed Larry that I was running the sound board, and asked if he wanted a sound check. He agreed and the following is a word per word description of the aforementioned sound check.

Me: Mr Norman please play your guitar
Larry: (strums guitar)
Me: Mr Norman can you hear your guitar
Larry : Yeah
Me: Mr Norman can you please sing into the mic
Larry: Can you please call me Larry
Me: Um Sure Mr. Nor...I mean Larry
Larry: Thanks...

I will always be blessed by and I will never forget that day with Larry Norman
Godspeed to his family....
