Music that inspired ministry, or was it the other way around?

I started listening to Larry Norman in 1979, and began to get serious about my faith.  During my time in college, as I grew in the Lord, I began learning some of his songs on the guitar, and began singing them to the kids I worked with in church...and then in Africa in the summer of 1983, where God called me to ministry.  As I worked with students through the years, I had the joy of seeing so many get turned on to good God-honoring music.  I have always traced my own love for this kind of tunage to my days listening to Larry, with friends like Steve Findley, Joe Scarborough, and Russ Houston.  The thing that always stuck out to me about Larry's music, his writings, his essence, was that yes, he genuinely cared about people, all people.  I was always challenged to get out of my comfort zone, and minister to people "different" than me.  So today, I had the privilege to help with a dedication of a chapel at the Home of Grace in Baldwin County AL for ladies seeking to find deliverance from alcohol and drug addictions.  To see the joy and hope on their faces reminded me of the joy and hope I first had, and have as I listen to Larry's music.  My desire is to continue to sing the sweet song of salvation for as long as the Lord will give me time on this earth.  I am eternally grateful that God sent Larry to me in my time of need in 1979.  It made and is making a difference.  God bless, Frank Trotter
