Larry Norman Message Board

Thanks to all the thousands of visitors we've had in the past 30 days.
The response has been overwhelming, and has meant a lot to
Larry's family and friends around the world.

Again, thanks for all the support and great memories...

I am a Christian, but i can't believe that every time someone who isn't and tries to say that they are just Larry Norman fans comes on this board they get the third degree. Larry was a musician with a message yes, but it is possible to just enjoy his music (as a lot of my friends do) without having to be saved. There's nothing more off-putting then to be greeted with huge Jesus signs and quotes from the bible when you just want to say that you respect the man for his music. If Larry's music hasn't bought someone to Christ, why do you think that preaching at them will? Please, Let anyone who wants to say they enjoyed Larry's music be allowed to say why without being thrown to the lions for their beliefs. Thank You.

Chris T. is right..some people have a bit rude while others have preached. I don't remember Larry ever preaching to people.  I do recall him relating his experience to Christ and giving his view in the proper context. I know people feel emotional and mean well...but, it is off-putting to be preached at.

Terry, i wasn't going to answer any replies as i didn't want to prolong this thread, but i must Thank You. Your words are better chosen than mine, and your wisdom makes me feel very humble.

I have been a Larry fan since my childhood (about 30 years) and i have been slowly introducing the great man to many of my work colleagues. I feel there is a lot to learn from his lyrics and message, but i let the new 'fans' decide for themselves. If they love Mr Norman because he is a great songwriter then great. If they find some peace or question his lyrics then great too. And if they get a spiritual blessing from it, then even better. But i don't believe in forcing the issue, as we must find our own path in life. I feel i can point in the right direction, but i try not to push!
Hello to everyone on the board.

Rest In Peace Larry, you sure do have an effect on every kind of people. And make us question ourselves in a good way.

Chris T.

Thanks, Chris     I'm glad that you feel supported by my comments.  I'm also glad that you chimed in, so people will no we are in favor of a diversity of belief even though we firmly believe in Christ and His love.

All we have to do is stand out of our own way.....that way we don't block God!

Perfect.  The last time I saw Larry in person he was walking by himself at Universal Amplitheater, a coke and a hot dog in his hands.   You can't make this stuff up!  We love a God of coke and hot dogs!!! biggrin  And Cracker Jacks!!

Speak for yourself! - that is NOT what I believe!... I believe Jesus is the way the truth and the life and that NO ONE comes to the father but through Jesus Christ!

Don't you know anything about Larry?  He was not in favor of "diversity of belief"  - in fact he spent a lifetime fighting this kind of ignorance and filling dark areas with light and pointing to ONE WAY.

There is ONE NAME under heaven where we must be saved - to say "we are in favor of diversity" when it comes to eternity is a doctrine that will insure hell gets new additions!  Look - it's VERY simple, and as Larry warned: even if you don't believe it's going to come true...

If you support anything other than the Gospel you support Satan - Jesus said "those who are not with me are against me"  that's the truth in love.

If your loved one was walking in front of a speeding bus - would you try to stop them? or would you say - "we'll they believe that the bus won;t harm them...."

Don't be afraid to disagree with the lies of hell - be afraid to defy the word of a Holy God.  Win souls with prayer & Gods word given in truth & in love NOT tolerance of false doctrines!

I agree with KPS - Larry Normans ministry never ever struck me as supporting diversity of belief. no true ministry or followoer of God could be divided in that way.

You can only serve one master.

At the same time, I think we can all agree self righteous preaching is a religious spirit and evil in itself.

I think the "diversity of belief" writer(s) agrees that Jesus alone has THE answer.  I think their point was, to use an analogy, to cook the roast beef and serve it on a silver serving tray, not to shove it frozen and raw in one piece down someone's throat.  THAT was Larry's approach, and why God was able to work through him so powerfully.  Would wild teenagers have listened to him if he showed up in a stained-glass church with short hair, a suit and a tie shaking his finger and telling them God's Truth in condemning, harsh terms?  No.  First, they wouldn't have gone to church.  Larry met them in the streets.  Second, dressed like the typical minister, the typical wild teenager would have brushed him off as a "Bible thumper" without listening past one sentence.  Last, the average person doesn't want to be reprimanded or preached at.  Larry told God's Truth with humor, thru music, music that had a beat!  Then at concerts, he gently gave the salvation message and let God speak thru Larry's own testimony of his experiences, and how God made a difference.  Larry said he sang the music because it drew people to talk with him after the concert...that was his goal at a concert.  He was doing what Paul did in Corinth, "I become all things to all people that by some means I might win some."

I don't think anyone on this message board string was endorsing any belief but the person of Jesus Christ being THE way, the truth, and the life.  I think rather they were lovingly accepting all people where they are in their beliefs, just like the Holy Spirit is a gentleman...He doesn't force anyone to believe in Him.  He gives us all a free choice who to serve.  God Himself gave every human being the right to believe, think, and feel the way they want to...He doesn't want to force anyone to worship Him like puppets.  But He draws people, bringing conviction on them through their conscience, demonstrating His Love.  And all the while He knows that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  We'll ALL be believers at the end...it's just that sadly, it will be too late for some.

Love in Jesus,
Brenda
